We understand that traveling to Mumbai from another city or country for cancer surgery can be intimidating. Dr. Ramani regularly operates on patients from all over India and other countries. We have tried to compile some useful information to address some of the common questions and problems faced by patients who are traveling.
Before the Surgery
Appointment:
You need to call +91 – 9967666060 to schedule an appointment. Dr. Ramani’s assistant will ask for relevant reports to be sent via email or whatsapp for a pre- screen. Once an appointment is confirmed, Dr. Ramani’s patient coordinator will be in touch to answer any questions about the appointment or any rescheduling due to unforeseen issues. Appointments for outstation patients can be prioritized based on their travel plans.
Stay in Mumbai:
Most hospitals and clinics in Mumbai have good number of reasonable hotels/accommodation options. Dr Ramani’s patient coordinator is happy to recommend hotels, which are convenient for patients to stay and close to relevant hospitals. The coordinator can help with arranging a rental car if required.
Investigations:
Once the appointment is done, the patient coordinator will work with patients to guide them to get necessary investigations to be done before surgery.
Costing:
Once Dr. Ramani meets the patient and the diagnosis and decision for surgery is finalized, Dr. Ramani’s assistant will provide the estimated cost of the surgery.
At the Time of Surgery
Admission:
Most patients need to be admitted in the hospital a day before the surgery. Dr. Ramani’s coordinator assists the patients in the admission process on the day of admission. The coordinator helps with hospital and insurance forms and room allocation. Patients are also given a 24-hour number to call if they need assistance at the hospital.
After the Surgery
Patients usually get discharged in 3-4 days from the hospital. Dr. Ramani needs to see the patients one more time in a week from surgery for a follow up and stitch removal. Dr. Ramani’s assistant may be able to do an at home visit if needed.
Most patients are fit to travel back to the home city by air in ~10 days after the surgery. We provide fitness certificates required by the airlines.
Depending on the type of surgery or disease, Dr. Ramani will need to see the patients for follow up in 6 months or a year for a few years. The patients will be briefed about follow ups at the time of discharge. They can also call Dr Ramani’s assistant’s number at anytime in case of any doubts or concerns after the surgery.
